Opening the Eyes of Professionals to Reactive Attachment Disorder

This course consists of 6 sessions. The 6th session is for reflection and understanding what the course was about. The first part of the course describes what RAD is and how children are affected by it. The last two sessions are how to specifically relate to parents of adopted children. The course also shows how racial biases can also affect the way professionals view adopted children with RAD.

This course is designed to address the issues adoptive parents with children affected by Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) have with communicating with professionals who do not understand what RAD is or what causes an adopted child’s crazy behaviors. The cause, of course, is early childhood trauma, but no one quite understands that the trauma occurred years before the child could protect him or herself.
